STANFORD, Calif. -- Severe weather forced cancellation of Sunday's third and final round at the U.S. Intercollegiate, hosted by Stanford University at the Stanford Golf Course, delivering UCLA the team title and the Cardinal's Rob Grube the individual title.
Tournament play at the par-70, 6,742-yard course was to continue on Sunday morning with an 8 a.m. shotgun start after players weathered adverse conditions over the first 36 holes on Saturday. However, inclement weather on Sunday forced a halt to the remainder of the tournament.
UC Davis, which had rounds of 304 and 306 in Saturday's first two rounds, finished at 50-over par and in 14th place. UCLA won with an 18-over par 578, one shot better than USC and two shots in front of the host Cardinal.
The Aggies' Nate Pistacchio shot a pair of 5-over 75's on Saturday and finished the tournament tied for 35th place, a position he also shared with seven others including teammate Erik Hill, whose 73 in the second round was UC Davis' lowest of the day. Ramie Sprinkling tied for 54th in the tournament while Matt Muscara tied for 71st.
Gruber won the tournament by four strokes, posting a 7-under 64 in the second round to highlight his win.
The event was the final of the 2005-06 season for UC Davis.
