PATTERSON, Calif. - Cal State Bakersfield fired a final-round 299 as it led wire-to-wire to capture its second-straight California Collegiate Athletic Association Men's Golf Championship, played Tuesday at the par 72, 7,243-yard Ranch Course at Diablo Grande.

The Roadrunners were the only team to post sub-300 rounds as they shot 296-307-299 for a three-round score of 902, nine strokes better than runner-up Cal State Stanislaus (911). Chico State (914) finished third while UC Davis (917) came in fourth, 15 strokes off the lead. UC San Diego (946) rounded out the top five with Cal State, San Bernardino (958) sixth, Grand Canyon (963) seventh and Cal state Dominguez Hills (1006) eighth.

Individually, Bakersfield's Bill Noon made his five-under par, 67 in the first round stand up as he captured a two-stroke victory over UC Davis' Jay Westerlund. Noon went 67-76-76 for a three-round score of 219, while Westerlund improved on his opening-round of 75 with back-to-back 73's to finish at 221. Bakersfield's Mark Baker (223) finished third while Cal State Stanislaus' Jim Schafer (226) and Chico State teammates J.J. Jakovac (226) Brian Benedictson (226) tied for 4th.

In addition to Westerlund, the Aggies were led by Eric Restrepo, who finished tied for eighth with a three-round score of 228. Scott Gordon (234) and Chris Kilkenny (234) tied for 17th while Jason Gambonini (250) came in 33rd.

"It was a tough tournament," said Aggie Head Coach Cy Williams. "We had great conditions to see who could battle the wind and rain and we learned a lot about playing in less than ideal weather. Jay (Westerlund) had a great tournament. He played very solid and was right there in the end."

At the conclusion of the CCAA's, the conference announced its post-season awards. Westerlund and Restrepo were each named to the All-CCAA First Team, which goes to the top eight finishers at the conference championships.

The Aggies will next be in action on May 5-7 when they compete in the NCAA Division II West Regional in Littleton, Colo.
