Aggies End Season With 12th Place Showing At BYU Cougar Classic

PROVO, Utah - Colorado State University (845) shot a 16-under 272 on the final day, the best round of the tournament, to capture a 12-stroke win over Texas-El Paso (857) on Saturday at the 2004 Ping Golf Cougar Classic Friday afternoon at the par 72, 7,001-yard Riverside Country Club.

UC Davis finished its final round of the 2004 season with a 7-over 295, finishing at 877 for the three rounds and in 12th place.

Boise State (858) shot a final-round 286 to finish in third while Utah (860) and Brigham Young (861) rounded out the top five.

Individually, Hawaii's Matthew Kodama won a three-way playoff to take medalist honors, finishing at 10-under 206. BYU's Ron Harvey Jr. (206) and Colorado State's Martin Laird (206) tied for second at 206. Laird shot the low round of the tournament on Saturday with an 8-under 64. Laird's teammate, Nolan Martin, finished 9-under at 207 and in fourth place while UTEP's Chris Baryla (208) finished in fifth.

For the Aggies, sophomore Erik Hill led the way as he finished the tournament at even-par, 216, tied for 20th. Senior Scott Gordon finished his Aggie career with a 2-over, 218 and in a tie for 30th while junior Eric Restrepo was one shot behind Gordon at 219, tied for 35th. Senior Chris Kilkenny played his final round as an Aggie at 5-over, 77, finishing in 74th place for the tournament. Freshman Louie Bishop did not play in Saturday's final round.

The Ping Golf Cougar Classic marked the end of the 2004 season for the Aggies.
