BREMERTON, Wash. - Mike Brockington and Matt Hansen combined for 10 birdies on the back side of Gold Mountain Golf Club's Olympic Course during Monday's second round, shooting 3-under 69 and 1-under 70, respectively, and helping UC Davis end the day in 10th place.
The Aggie players helped UC Davis shave eight shots off its first-round score of 10-over 298 and fire 290 in the second, giving them a 12-over 588 overall total.
Hansen, who shot a 73 in the morning round, is tied for 15th at even par while Brockington, who carded a 77 in the first round, is tied for 24th. He's tied with teammate Jonny Baxter who had rounds of 72 and 74 and is 2 over. Luke Vivolo had matching 76s and is tied for 54th at 8 over while Josh Granger is tied for 69th at 12 over after shooting 77 and 79,
Host Washington is at 11-under 565 and leads second-place San Diego by 10 strokes. BYU (578) and Oregon State (578) are tied for third. The Huskies' Cheng-Tsung Pan leads all players at 6-under 138 after highlighting his day with a 68 in the opening round.
Brockington, who had no birdies and five bogeys in the morning, was on fire on the back nine in the afternoon. He made his turn a shot over par but birdied every hole on the back side except for the 12th, 13th and 16th holes. He was 4 under over his last nine holes.
Hansen was also 4 under on the back nine in the afternoon, posting birdies on both par-5 holes along with the par-4 17th and 18th holes. He had pars on the other holes. Hansen had four birdies in his first round.
Baxter was 2 under on midway through his second round and helped counter a string over bogeys over his last nine holes with a pair of birdies. He was 1 under on the back nine in the first round.
Vivolo had seven combined birdies in his two rounds while Granger had three, all of them in the afternoon.
UC Davis will conclude the season-opening event beginning at 8:50 a.m. on Tuesday.
