GOLF, Ill. - Northwestern shot 4-under par, 284, in the first round and hold a five stroke lead over Duke while UC Davis finished the day in 11th place, 30-shots off the lead following the first two rounds of the Windon Memorial Classic on Monday at the par-72, 6,745-yard Glen View Club.
Northwestern is the only team to shoot under par following the first two rounds as they finished Monday at 3-under par, 573. Duke (578) is five shots back while Stanford (582), North Florida (583) and Oregon (584) round out the top five. Six of the top 100 teams, according to GolfWeek's collegiate rankings, are playing in the field, including No.7 Oklahoma State, which finished Monday at 591, 18 shots off the lead. UC Davis shot 299-304--603 during Monday's opening two rounds.
Northwestern's Tom Johnson holds a one-stroke lead over Stanford's Jim Seki for individual honors. Johnson fired rounds of 71 and 69 to close the day at 140, 4-shots under par. Seki (70-71--141) is one shot behind while their is a three-way tie for third with Kent State's Peter Laws (142), Oregon's Chris Carnahan (142) and Northwestern's Scott Harrington (142), all two shots off the lead.
Junior Jay Westerlund led UC Davis as he finished Monday tied for 24th at 4-over par, 148, eight shots off the lead. Junior Chris Kilkenny (150) is tied for 32nd while Sophomore Eric Restrepo (152) is tied for 42nd. Junior Scott Gordon is tied for 49th at 154 while junior Josh Williams, playing his first tournament as an Aggie, is in 61st at 158.
Play concludes at the Windon Memorial Classic on Tuesday morning with a final 18-holes at The Glen View Club.
