LAKE FOREST, Ill. - Louisiana State University shot an opening round of 3-over 287 and holds a four stroke lead over Duke (291) following the first round of play at the 2004 Windon Memorial Classic, played at the par 71, 6,849-yard Conway Farms Golf Club. UC Davis shot an opening round of 309 and sits tied for 16th after Monday's first round.
Monday's second round was suspended due to darkness and will resume on Tuesday, with the third and final round to follow immediately. Most teams fell two or three holes shy of completing the second round.
In addition to LSU and Duke, Minnesota (293) sits in third place while host Northwestern (294) and Kent State (294) are tied for fourth.
Individually, Bronson LaCassie of Minnesota fired a 2-under 69 Monday morning and holds a one-stroke lead over a group of four players, including defending champion Peter Richardson of Purdue. Also in the group are Peter Laws of Kent State, Oklahoma's Anthony Kim and LSU's Chris Wells.
For UC Davis, senior Jay Westerlund was the low Aggie as he shot a 4-over 75 on Monday, which puts him in a tie for 29th place along with senior teammate Eric Restrepo, who also shot a 75. Freshman Ramie Sprinkling is tied for 67th after an opening round of 79 while sophomore Steven Strong (80) is tied for 74th and sophomore Louie Bishop (85) is tied for 87th.
Play continues on Tuesday with the completion of the second round along with the third and final round immediately following.
