Oct. 9, 2017

SKOKIE, Ill. - Freshman Thomas Hutchison fired a team low round of even-par 70, sophomore Matt Robinson finished among the individual top 20, and UC Davis compiled a team score of 283 on the final day of the Windon Memorial Classic men’s collegiate golf tournament at Evanston Golf Club Monday.

Robinson totaled 213 strokes for the weekend to tie for 20th place on the individual leaderboard, seven strokes behind co-medalists Patrick Flavin of Miami (Ohio) and Brendan Doyle of Indiana. Penn State tied host Northwestern with 5-under-par 538 totals en route to the team title.

Hutchison opened his final round with a birdie-4 on the 13th hole, and improved to 3-under after his birdie on the 503-yard sixth before settling back to even par. His round, the best of his young collegiate career, moved him up 20 places in the standings.

In addition to Hutchison’s 70, three Aggies scored 1-over 71s in the final round: Robinson, senior Brandon Baumgarten and junior Jesse Bratz. Senior Evan Knight fired a 3-over 73 to finish with a 54-hole total of 214, good for a tie for 23rd place in the individual standings. Hutchison, Baumgarten and Bratz each took part in a share of 38th place with identical 217 totals.

The 21st Windon Memorial, held on a par-70, 6,793-yard course, closes out the fall season for UC Davis. The Aggies will kick off their spring season at Hawaii-Hilo’s Amer Ari Intercollegiate from February 1-3, 2018.
