LA QUINTA, Calif. -- Eighth-ranked UCLA captured its third straight tournament title at The Prestige at PGA WEST on Tuesday, capturing a 10-stroke victory over Brigham Young University at the par-72, 7,156-yard Greg Norman Course.

Three players broke par in the final round for the Bruins while BYU had four players each shoot 71.

The Bruins, who led after each round, posted team scores of 3-over 291 and 1-over 289 over the final two rounds to go with the 8-under they tallied in Monday's first round. UCLA finished at 4- over 860 while the Cougars finished at 6-over 870. The 18 teams were only able to finish the first round on Monday after play was suspended due to darkness. The remaining holes of the second round, along with remaining 18 holes, were completed on Tuesday.

Lightning delayed the tournament on Monday afternoon and more rain saturated the course overnight, creating tough playing conditions. However, nine players finished below par in the 54- hole tournament, including Tim Cha of UC Irvine and Danny Zimmerman of Illinois, who each finished at 3-under, 213 to tie for medalist honors. Erik Flores and Chris Heintz of UCLA were one shot off the pace along with Scott Gustafson of Notre Dame.

BYU, which was 15 shots behind UCLA after the first round, had rounds of 291 and 4-under 284 in the last two to finish at 6-over for the tournament. UC Irvine was 8-over to place third, Illinois was fourth at 11-over and Pepperdine and Notre Dame tied for fifth at 16-over.

Co-host Stanford finished tied for seventh with Texas at 22-over while co-host UC Davis was 13th at 34-over. Rob Grube led the Cardinal with a sixth-place showing, tallying a 1-under 216, while Ramie Sprinkling was tied for 32nd at 7-over 223 to pace the Aggies.

The day featured a hole-in-one by Notre Dame's Cole Isban, last year's runner-up, who aced the par-3, 216-yard 13th hole. He finished the day with a 4-under 68, the second-lowest score of the third round.

UCLA's 10-shot win was the second-largest in the tournament's six-year history, only trailing Texas Christian's 15-stroke victory in 2002. It was also just one shot off the nine-shot win the Bruins had at last year's tournament, which was also played at the Greg Norman Course.

Cha had rounds of 73, 70 and 70 for the tournament while Zimmerman posted rounds of 70, 73 and 70 as the pair tied for medalist honors. Scott Gustafson tied Colorado's Edward McGlasson for the lowest-score for a round by firing a 5-under 67 on Tuesday. McGlasson posted his 67 in Monday's first round.

UCLA had four players finish in the top 11. Besides Heintz and Flores, Daniel Im had a 71 and tied for sixth at 216 and Lucas Lee posted a 77 to finish in a tie for 11th. BYU had a quartet of players score 71 in Tuesday's final round, a group that included Clay Ogden, Jake Ellison, Nick Becker and Oscar Alvarez.

UC Davis, which finished second last year to UCLA, had a tournament-best score of 3-over 291 in the second round, getting a 2-under 70 from Louie Bishop. Sprinkling finished the round with a 73 while Steve Strong and Nate Pistacchio each had 74's. Bishop finished the 90-player tournament tied for 38th while Hills tied for 40th. Hill and Sprinkling each had 73's to help highlight the Aggies' final round of 301.

Grube had a team-best 70 in the second round to help highlight Stanford's play. Zack Miller tied for 32nd at 223 while Matthew Savage postred a three-round total of 226 to tie for 44th. Stanford had rounds of 296 and 299 in the last two rounds.

UC Davis finishes its fall season with the CordeValle Invitational, which will take place in San Jose on Oct. 31 and Nov. 1.

Play was especially strong in light of the Greg Norman Course hosting a PGA Tournament Qualifying tournament last week as course set-up remained the same.
