STOCKTON, Calif. - Tyler Raber shot a 4-under 68 to tie for sixth while Jonny Baxter was three under to tie for ninth to lead the UC Davis men's golf team after the first day of action at the SCVB Pacific Invitational, hosted by Pacific at the Brookside Country Club in Stockton.

UC Davis is tied for fifth with Colorado State after a strong first day that resulted in a collective 9-under 279. The Aggies, ranked 54th nationally by Golfstat, are within five shots of the team leaders, Pacific and Kansas State. BYU is in third at 13-under while Charlotte sits just one stroke ahead of UC Davis.

Matt Seramin is tied for 19th after shooting a 2-under 70 while Matt Hansen was even to tie for 33rd. Will Scarlett made his UC Davis debut on Monday and finished with a 76 in a first round highlighted by three birdies and 10 pars.

Raber got out to a strong start on Monday and quickly moved to three after opening with three birdies in his first five holes. He closed out the front nine with four straight pars, then continued the streak into his back nine to remain at three under through 12 holes.

His fourth birdie of the round moved him to four under, but a bogey on the par-4 sixth hole briefly took him back to three under. He immediately regrouped with a birdie on the very next hole and closed out with two more pars for a season-low 68.

Baxter's first round was similarly impressive as he closed out his front nine at one under after birdies on his first and last holes to go with six pars, then opened his back nine with a birdie on hole one to move to two under.

After back-to-back pars, he improved to three under with a birdie on the par-5 fourth hole and despite, a bogey on hole five, closed out with three straight pars and his fifth birdie of the day to finish with a season-low 69.

Seramin placed in the top 20 after a strong round as well. The Aggie junior opened with a birdie on the very first hole of the day, then made five straight pars before a bogey on the par-5 16th hole moved him back to even. He turned the corner at one under though after a biride on the 18th hole, then found himself at 3-under through 14 holes after two additional birdies.

He nearly finished the round at three under until a late bogey moved him back to two under for the day.

Round two begins on Tuesday with staggered tee times starting at 8 a.m.
