LA QUINTA, Calif. - UC Davis was able to manage difficult conditions the best to shot an opening-day total of 609, taking a one-stroke lead over UCLA following the first two rounds of the 2004 Prestige at PGA West, played on a windy par-72, 7,156-yard Greg Norman Course at PGA WEST.

The Aggies opened with a 306 then followed up with the low score of the second round, a 303, which was good enough to overcome first-round leader UCLA (610), which shot the day's low score with a 302 Monday morning. UC Irvine (612) is three strokes off the pace while Kansas (618) and 2002 champion TCU (621) round out the top five.

Individually, Notre Dame's Cole Isban (146) put two solid rounds together as he went 72-74 to finish at two-over 146, good enough for a two-stroke lead over UC Davis' Erik Hill (148), who shot 71-77. A trio of players are three strokes off the lead at 5-over, 149, including UC Irvine's Brian Edick, TCU's J.J. Killeen and Kansas' Kevin Ward. The shot of the day came from Yale's Andrew Vitt, who aced the par-3, 140-yard fourth hole in Monday's second round.

In addition to Hill's four-over 148, the Aggies were paced by Steven Strong, who finished Monday tied for 11th at 8-over, 152. Louie Bishop (154) is eight strokes off the pace and tied for 15th while Eric Restrepo (155) is tied for 23rd at 11-over. Jay Westerlund (161) is tied for 52nd while Ramie Sprinkling is playing as an individual this week and finished Monday in 80th place at 173.

The Prestige, hosted by the UC Davis and Stanford, is in it's fifth year of bringing together 16 of the nation's top academic and golf-playing universities. The Prestige has quickly become one of the nation's top collegiate golf tournaments with the help of presenting sponsors Kohlberg Kravis Roberts and Co., GEM (the official neighborhood electric vehicle), Nike Golf, KSL Resorts, Charles Schwab, La Quinta Resort and Club and KPSP-CBS TV 2.
