DAVIS, Calif. - UC Davis men’s golf returns to action by co-hosting a tournament that lives up to its very name: the Prestige at PGA WEST. Now in its 17th running, and 15th in its current locale in the Coachella Valley, the Prestige runs from Monday through Wednesday at the Greg Norman Course.

The three-round, 54-hole tournament features a tough field that includes five teams ranked in Golfstat’s current top 25: No. 5 Texas Tech, No. 11 Oklahoma, No. 14 San Diego State, No. 16 LSU and the Aggies’ eighth-ranked co-hosts, Stanford. A sixth team, Arizona State, sits just outside that ladder at No. 27. Completing the field are East Tennessee, Iowa State, Pepperdine, Saint Mary’s, San Diego and the tourney’s lone international entrant, Scotland’s University of Stirling. Individually, Stanford senior Maverick McNealy stands atop Golfweek’s individual rankings.

LSU won last year’s tournament with a 26-under-par total of 826, while then-senior and current PGA Tour pro Zach Wright took home the medalist honor for the Tigers at 12-under 201. UC Davis finished ninth in the 2016 edition of the Prestige, with Ben Corfee leading the way at 1-under 212.

The Aggies had two top-five team finishes in their 2016 fall season, while Corfee highlighted his September slate with a seventh-place showing at the Windon Memorial. More recently, UC Davis placed 16th at the Amer Ari Invitational to start the spring portion of the year. Corfee again led the Aggies, firing a 3-under 69 in the final around to finish at even-par 216.

UC Davis owns a strong history in the Prestige, as one of just four schools to boast multiple individual champions. Erik Hill won the tournament outright in 2004, while Nate Pistacchio tied TCU’s Johan de Beer for the win in 2008. Austin Graham added a T5th finish in the 2008 event, helping UC Davis place second in the team race behind the Horned Frogs. Other Aggies to place in the top 10 include Cal Aggie Athletics Hall of Famer Louie Bishop, who tied for seventh in 2006.

Last year’s Prestige tournament ranked 62nd on SPG’s Amateur Tournament Rank. Live results are available via Golfstat.
