MEADOW VISTA, Calif. - The UC Davis men's golf team will host its second tournament this spring when the Aggies welcome 10 other teams for the 2nd Annual Winchester Classic at beautiful Winchester Country Club in Meadow Vista.

The tournament has expanded by four teams from its inaugural event with this year's field comprised of Fresno State, Long Beach State, Nevada, Idaho, Sacramento State, Cal State Fullerton, North Dakota, UC Santa Barbara William Jessup (NAIA) and Oklahoma Christian (Div. II), along with the Aggies.

The teams will open the first round beginning at 11 a.m. on Monday with tee times extending until 2:10 p.m. Saturday's second round also starts at 11 a.m. with Sunday's beginning at 7:40 a.m. Spetacular Winchester Country Club measures 7,144 yards and is a par 72.

Fresno State captured last year's title with a 10-over 874 score while Idaho's Jarrod Bossio shot par to win individual honors.

The Aggies, who were eighth at the ASU Thunderbird Invitational two weeks ago in Tempe, Ariz., will have a full complement of players participating this weekend. Tyler Raber, Matt Seramin, Matt Hansen, Jonny Baxter and Ben Corfee comprise the UC Davis team while B.K. Sobhani, Mike Brockington and Will Scarlett will compete as individuals.

"Winchester Country Club is a beautiful facility that is certainly capable of hosting an NCAA Championship event," said Aggie coach Cy Williams. "Our conference championship is in a week so we're going to be able to see all of our players in action and fortify our lineup going into the Big West Championship.

"Although we never look ahead, the reality is this is going to be another step forward as we try to win our conference championship," he added.

UC Davis has won the past two Big West titles and will be looking to gain momentum this weekend.

The Aggies enter the Winchester Classic ranked 63rd by Golfweek and are the highest-ranked team in the field. Fresno State is No. 72 while Big West rival Long Beach State is No. 80.

Raber, who has 12 rounds at par or better this season among the 27 he's played, leads UC Davis with a 71.9 average. Matt Hansen, averaging 73.0 strokes, has 10 rounds at par or better while Matt Seramin has 12 and also carries a 73.0 avg. All three players, along with Baxter, have at least one round this season at 66 or lower.

The Aggies tied for second last year with Sacramento State. Seramin was UC Davis' top finisher, tying for second at 1-over 217. Brockington placed fourth at 2 over.

UC Davis earlier this spring co-hosted The Prestige at PGA WEST.
