NORMAN, Okla. -
Austin Graham and Ramie Sprinkling, who combined to finish first in six tournaments for the UC Davis men's golf team this season, have each been named to the Division I PING All-West Region team, it was announced on Monday.
The pair earned the postseason accolades after helping lead the Aggies to UC Davis' first-ever Big West Conference championship this spring while advancing to the NCAA West Regional in just their second year of Div. I membership.
"I'm very proud of both players for earning this prestigious honor," said head coach Cy Williams. "They are extremely talented and have tremendous work ethics. They were both being considered for All-American honors as well and it's good to see their great seasons merit this recognition."
Graham, a sophomore from San Clemente, led the Aggies with a 72.1 scoring average during the 2008-09 season while capturing medalist honors at the season-opening Kansas Invitational, the Wyoming Cowboy Classic in April and then in a playoff over Sprinkling at the Big West Conference Championship.
He had five top-10 finishes in 13 events, including four in the top five. Among Graham's many season highlights was a school-record 9-under 63 in the second round of The Prestige at PGA WEST in October, a performance that helped him tie for fifth in the highly competitive tournament.
Graham played Monday at Saticoy Country Club in Somis during sectional qualifying for this week's U.S. Open but did not advance. He earned a spot in the prestigious field after co-medalist honors at local qualifying in May.
Sprinkling, a senior from Camarillo, followed Graham's win at Kansas with a 7-under 206 the following week at the Wolverine Intercollegiate at Michigan to earn medalist accolades. He added another win in March when he beat 98 other golfers to capture top honors at the Fresno State Lexus Classic. His third first-place finish came at the Big West tournament which went to extra holes against Graham.
Sprinkling's 72.2 average was second-best on the team while his 20 rounds at par or better led the squad. He had a team-high five top-five placings and a season-best round of 66 which he earned in the first round of the U.S. Intercollegiate at Stanford in April.
UC Davis enjoyed a standout season, posting three tournament wins, a trio of runner-up placings and 11 top-10 finishes overall.
