DAVIS, Calif. - Kevin Fitzgerald from Riverside Poly High School has signed a National Letter of Intent to play for the UC Davis men's golf team while Matt Marshall, a transfer from UCLA, has signed an athletics grant-in-aid agreement, it was announced on Wednesday by Aggies head coach Cy Williams.

Both players will join the UC Davis team in time for the fall season.

Fitzgerald was a team co-captain and named team MVP for Riverside Poly this past spring, finishing with a 35.58 scoring average for nine holes. He finished second at the Ivy League Championships before placing 13th at the section regionals. Fitzgerald helped lead Riverside Poly to a trio of league titles between his freshman and junior seasons, twice placing third at the league tournament and tying for sixth at the section regionals in 2004.

"Kevin is a very good young player that will have an opportunity to make an impact here during his career," said Williams. "He has a lot of talent. He got a late start into tournament competition and should have lots of room to grow."

Marshall, a 2004 graduate of Saratoga High School in Saratoga, Calif., was a member of the UCLA golf team the past two seasons. He highlighted his sophomore season this past spring by tying for first at the Battle of Monarch Bay while also tying for ninth at the Cougar Invitational in February. Marshall had a low round of 69 during his freshman season in which he saw action in 10 events. At Saratoga High School he was a three-time MVP, earning All-Santa Clara Valley League honors in 2003 and 2004.

"Matt is an outstanding, proven player that is coming from a (UCLA) team that had incredible depth," said Williams. "He comes to Davis with the chance to be a leader and to develop into a top player. He has great drive and I think his transfer will be very good for his career as well as for our team."

Marshall recently defeated Cameron Tringale of Georgia Tech in the first round of match play at the California State Amateur on June 22 at Pebble Beach. Tringale is ranked 18th in the most recent individual Golfweek Rankings.

UC Davis will begin its final year of reclassification to NCAA Division I status in 2005-06 and will compete in the Big West Conference Championships beginning in 2007-08. The Aggies will highlight their upcoming schedule by hosting The Prestige at PGA WEST in La Quinta in October, bringing some of the country's top collegiate academic and golf teams for a 54-hole event.
