Tournament features 29 men's teams, all from California, along with the defending NCAA champion UCLA women's team in a 54-hole, stroke play format... Format features 36 holes on Friday followed by 18 on Saturday... UC Davis returns five members from last year's squad, including senior All-American's Jay Westerlund and Eric Restrepo... Sophomore Louie Bishop set a UC Davis freshman scoring record with 73.38 stroke average last season... Restrepo had two top 10 finishes last season and his 73.11 stroke average was the fourth-lowest in school history... Westerlund was a redshirt last season after setting a then-school record with a 72.90 stroke average during the 2003 season... UC Davis is in the second of a four-year transition from NCAA Division II to Division I and is ineligible for postseason competition until the 2007-08 season.
HEAD COACH CY WILLIAMS
"We're very excited to get started with the season. The Gold Rush will be some great competition among most of the top California universities, so we should know where we stand right away. Our guys have been practicing hard and have had some individual successes this summer, so we're ready to go. We feel our top three players are very proven and experienced; the depth in our lineup this year should help us to improve on last year's record-breaking season."
