UC Davis To Open Play At Northwestern On Sunday

GLENCOE, Ill. - The UC Davis men's golf team looks to continue its strong start to the 2009-10 season when the Aggies travel to Northwestern for the 13th annual Windon Memorial Classic at Skokie Country Club on Sunday and Monday.

The Aggies, who finished third at the season-opening Washington State Palouse Collegiate and were third two weeks ago at the Michigan State Spartan Classic, will utiilize the same lineup of Austin Graham, Tyler Raber, Brent Booth, Andrew Haggen and Tim Honeycutt that it's used so far.

Teams will play 36 holes on Sunday beginning at 5:45 a.m. (Pacific) and then follow with 18 on Monday at the par-71, 7,081-yard course. Besides No. 78 UC Davis and No. 40 Northwestern, other teams entered include No. 2 Tennessee, No. 4 Illinois, No. 17 Michigan, No. 30 California, No. 37 Kent State, No. 39 Coastal Carolina, No. 53 Minnesota, No. 61 Indiana, No. 74 Eastern Michigan, No. 88 Tulsa, No. 89 Purdue, No. 94 Old Dominion and No. 205 Northern Illinois.

Graham has led the Aggies in their first two events, earning Big West Conference Golfer of the Month honors for September after a pair of top-three finishes. He highlighted the Washington State tournament with a course-record tying 65 in the final round on Sept. 15 before tying for third at Michigan State. He finished both tournaments at 5-under and is averaging 69.8 strokes.

Raber is averaging 72.2 strokes, helped by a 66 in the second round of the Spartan Classic where he finished a career-best eighth. Booth, who opened that same tournament with a 67, has a 74.0 average. Haggen and Honeycutt are averaging 74.2 and 75.0 strokes, respectively.

 

 

Graham is UC Davis' highest ranked golfer at No. 87.

This week's tournament leads into next week's The Prestige at PGA WEST which UC Davis will co-host with Stanford at the Stadium Course. The event will run from Sunday through Tuesday, featuring 18 holes each day.
