DAVIS, Calif. - The UC Davis men's golf team is set to tee off at the Alister MacKenzie Invitational, an annual event hosted by Cal, on Oct. 17-18 in Fairfax.
The 54-hole tournament will be played at the par-72, 6,728-yard Meadow Club. Monday's first round will begin with a shotgun start scheduled at 8:15 a.m., while golfers will tee off on the first and tenth tees at 7:45 a.m. on Tuesday.
UC Davis is part of a field of 16 teams that is highlighted by three teams ranked in the top 25 nationally by Golfstat: No. 2 Oregon, No. 19 Cal and No. 23 San Diego State. No. 27 San Jose State and No. 36 Colorado also headline the competition and are joined by BYU, Colorado State, Fresno State, New Mexico State, Oregon State, Pacific, San Francisco, UC Irvine, Utah and Washington State.
The Aggies finished fourth overall at last year's Alister MacKenzie Invitational and were led by Andrew Haggen and Matt Hansen who each shot 3-under 68s on the final day. Hansen returns to the lineup for UC Davis in 2011 and will be joined by Josh Granger, Matt Seramin, Daniel Covrig and Mike Brockington.
UC Davis is coming off a 13th-place finish at The Prestige at PGA WEST, which it co-hosted with Stanford. Granger led the Aggies at the 12th edition of the tournament after he shot six under on the final day to tie for 14th. His final round was highlighted by nine birdies as he improved on his first two rounds by six strokes.
Hansen tied for 21st and was the only Aggie besides Granger to have a sub-70 round when six birdies led to a 69 in his final round. Seramin also improved in his last round, shooting a 70 to finish tied for 61st.
Covrig and Brockington, a freshman out of Laguna Niguel, Calif., will make their 2011 debuts on Monday.
