AS A REDSHIRT JUNIOR (2012): Appeared in one game, playing 22 minutes against Saint Mary's on Sept. 22.

AS A JUNIOR (2011): Redshirted after suffering a broken ankle during training camp.

AS A SOPHOMORE (2010): Injured through most of the season, but appeared in seven matches as both a midfielder and forward.

AS A FRESHMAN (2009): Appeared in 16 matches with starts in the final two contests of the year (10/31 and 11/7)... Recorded 2 assists on the year... First assist came in 3-0 win over Robert Morris Sept. 4 and second was on first goal in 2-0 win against Cal Poly Oct. 31... Fired 3 shots.

HIGH SCHOOL: Graduated from North Delta Secondary in 2009, but played three previous years for Handsworth Secondary... Named to U15, U16 and U17 Canadian National Development Team roster... Earned British Columbia Provincial All-Star honors three times and played in England, Holland and Mexico as part of the all-star team... Posted 27 goals and 51 assists during his high school and provincial career and led teams to a 94-31 record, a Provincial Championship and a silver medal at the Canadian National Finals as a sophomore... Played club ball for Vancouver Whitecaps FC, winning the National Super Y Championship in 2004 and a silver medal at the 2008 Surf Cup... Also starred in ice hockey with, scoring 127 goals and recording 219 assists in his career with North Shore Winter Club... Selected to all-star team four consecutive years and helped lead team to 14 tournament wins, three provincial titles, a Western Canadian championship and the 2003 Quebec World Championship.

PERSONAL:Born in North Vancouver, British Columbia... Double majoring in communication and history... Parents are Lee & Wendy Newport... Sister Kendall graduated from the University of Victoria... Proudest accomplishment would be to make his family, friends and mentors proud of his efforts as a student-athlete.
