DAVIS, Calif. - Newcomers Matt Sheldon and Matt Wiesenfarth combined for five goals while Kevin Schulte slotted in a sixth to give the UC Davis men's soccer team a 6-1 exhibition win over Cal State East Bay on Saturday at Aggie Soccer Field.

Sheldon put UC Davis on the board first after he headed an Alex Henry cross across the goal into the lower left corner in the seventh minute of action.

In the 27th minute, Schulte collected a pass from Elliott Hord and shot from 12 yards out to put the Aggies up 2-0.

Sheldon struck again with another header when, in the 31st minute of play, John Joslin's cross found him streaking down the left side. The freshman ran up onto the cross and headed it down and into the back of the net.

With only three minutes gone by in the second half, the Pioneers broke up the UC Davis offense, avoiding the shutout with an impressive goal of their own. Daniel Borst lined up a direct free kick from approximately 25 yards out and struck a hard low shot through the Aggies' defensive wall. UC Davis goalkeeper Omar Zeenni was unable to hang on to the powerful strike and Cal State East Bay cut the score to 3-1.

Wiesenfarth's first goal of the day came in the 55th minute. Schulte slotted a through pass to Hord on the right sideline, which Hord one touched across the goal to the waiting Wiesenfarth who buried it for the Aggies' fourth goal of the day.

Less than a minute later, Alex Aguiar sent a pass through the middle to Wiesenfarth who chipped the ball over the Cal State East Bay goalkeeper to give UC Davis a 5-1 advantage.

Sheldon rounded out his hat trick with a goal in the 65th minute after he one-touched a pass from Henry into the lower right corner.

UC Davis outshot Cal State East Bay 23-6 and won five corner kicks.

The Aggies continue exhibition play on Tuesday with a 5 p.m. matchup against Chico State at Aggie Soccer Field.
