SPOKANE, Wash. - The UC Davis men's soccer team picked up its first victory of the season, Sunday afternoon, with a 4-0 victory at Gonzaga. Paul Marcoux scored two goals while Mariano Arrua and Quincy Amarikwa each posted goals as the Aggies claimed a split of their two-game road trip in Washington. The win evens the Aggies' record at 1-1-0 while the Bulldogs dropped to 1-1-0.
The scoring began in the 9th minute as Arrua took advantage of a dropped ball by Gonzaga goalkeeper Vito Higgins. Arrua tapped it in, and Dan Campbell received credit for an assist on the play that gave UC Davis a 1-0 lead.
With less than three minutes left in the half, Marcoux scored on a breakaway from the right side with an assist from Chris Leer to give the Aggies a 2-0 lead heading into halftime.
In the second half, Marcoux was at it again when he scored from 12 yards out in the 54th minute on an assist from Arrua to give the Aggies a 3-0 lead.
UC Davis made the most of its opportunities as Gonzaga actually held a 9-7 advantage in shots.
Warne and Brian Wickers combined for the shutout. Warne had five saves before being replaced in the 85th minute.
The four goals were the most by the Aggies since scoring four on Sept. 11, 2004, against Dominican and the most on the road since posting the same number on Oct. 12, 2003, at Cal Poly Pomona.
UC Davis is next in action Aug. 31 when it hosts Sacramento State at Aggie Soccer Stadium at 5 p.m.
