ROHNERT PARK, Calif. - In a defensive battle between two nationally-ranked team, it was No.23 Sonoma State riding a second-half goal from Brian Coyne to the, 1-0, victory over No.10 UC Davis in the California Collegiate Athletic Association opener for both teams Wednesday afternoon at Seawolf Field.

With the loss the Aggies suffer their first defeat of the season and fall to 3-1-1 while Sonoma remains unbeaten at 4-0.

Following a scoreless first half in which UC Davis managed just two shots, the Seawolves got on the board early in the second period as Boyne knocked home a crossing pass from Chris Daly at the 50:32 mark. The play began when Brandon Boone slotted a pass to Daly on the right side. Daly's shot attempt was deflected right back to him by Aggie goalkeeper Nic Platter, who could not recover in time as Daly found Coyne for the score.

From that point on, the Aggies tried to attack but could only manage just three shots the rest of the way.

For the game the Aggies were outshot, 11-5. In goal, Platter recorded four saves while Sonoma keeper, Matt Bernard, was credited with three saves.

UC Davis will next be in action on Saturday when it hosts Seattle Pacific University in a non-conference game at Aggie Field. Gametime is set for 4:00 p.m.
