SEATTLE, Wash. - Jarad vanSchaik took a pass in front of the goal from Ryan Luke and put it in the right side of the net for the winning score on Friday afternoon as No. 24 Portland edged the UC Davis men's soccer team 2-1 at the Husky Fever Classic at the University of Washington.

Alex Aguiar scored late in the first half for UC Davis which dropped to 2-5 with the defeat. The Pilots, who took an early lead off a goal from Steven Evans, improved to 3-1-2.

The teams were knotted 1-1 at the end of regulation but Portland scored quickly in the extra period when Luke found vanSchaik just 96 seconds in. It was vanSchaik's second goal of the season.

The Pilots got on the scoreboard first in the game, taking a 1-0 lead in the 24th minnute when Evans fired a shot from the middle of the box to the left corner, past UC Davis goal Ryan McCowan who dove in an effort to knock it away.

But the Aggies battled back against nationally ranked Portland, getting the equalizer in the 42nd minute when Aguiar scored for the first time this season, converting on the left side from about 16 yards out off an assist from Kevin Schulte.

That would be the only scoring for the rest of regulation as the teams battled through a scoreless second half.

McCowan had seven saves for UC Davis which put nine shots on goal against Portland. Pilots goalie Austin Guerrero had one save.

UC Davis will be back in action on Sunday when they face the host Huskies at 1 p.m.
