LA JOLLA, Calif. - Junior forward Ryan Shaw scored the equalizing goal in the 84th minute and the Aggie defense held the Tritons scoreless over the final 81 minutes as No.11 UC Davis and UC San Diego played to a 1-1 double-overall draw in a California Collegiate Athletic Association men's soccer game Sunday afternoon at Triton Soccer Stadium.
With the draw the Aggies move to 5-1-4 on the season, 4-1-2 in CCAA play while the Tritons go to 6-3-1, 5-3-1 in conference action.
It was the Tritons getting on the board first when off a corner kick Robert Stetina found the head of Matthew Davey, who beat Aggie goalkeeper Nic Platter to the near post at the 28:49 mark. The goal was the first scored against the Aggies since Sept. 10 against Sonoma State, a stretch of over 506 minutes. It also snapped a school-record streak of six consecutive shutouts for the Aggie defense.
The score remained 1-0 until late in regulation when Shaw took a pass on the left side of the penalty box from freshman David Keller, and found the back of the net with his low shot. It was Shaw's team-leading eighth goal of the season.
Neither team could score in overtime as both were able to get off two shots. In goal, Platter finished the contest with two saves while his counterpart, Jeremy Cookson, also registered two saves on the afternoon.
UC Davis will next be in action on Friday when it hosts Cal State San Bernardino at Aggie Field. Gametime is set for 3pm.
