LOS ANGELES, Calif. - Ryan Shaw scored a pair of goals and Darren Hammond added his first of the season as UC Davis defeated Cal State Los Angeles 3-1 in a California Collegiate Athletic Association men's soccer game Friday afternoon.

With the win the Aggies improve to 7-2-4 on the season, 6-2-2 in the CCAA while the Golden Eagles fall to 5-7-3 overall, 2-5-3 in conference play.

Shaw, the Aggies leading scorer, put UC Davis on the board first in the 25th minute when Hammond sent a pass to forward Jeff Hull. Hull then sent the ball to Shaw who beat Golden Eagle keeper Ricky Gonzalez for the 1-0 lead. Both Hammond and Hull were given assists on the play. Almost six minutes later, midfielder Vinney Matteoli sent a pass to Shaw who blasted another ball past Gonzalez, increasing the Aggies lea to 2-0. It marked the second straight multi-goal game for Shaw and his fifth of the season.

Cal State L.A. cut the lead in half during the 33rd minute when Kevin Knarr scored his second goal of the season on assists from Austin Dillon and Miller Rodriguez. Hammond would get the Aggie lead back to two and close out the scoring at 41:55 of the first half when he took a pass from Benjamin Swatez and found the back of the net for the 3-1 lead. The goal was Hammond's first this season and third of his Aggie career.

The two teams played a scoreless second half although the Aggies did manage to get 10 shots off, three of which were saved by Gonzalez. Gonzales finished the day with five saves while Aggie goalkeeper Nic Platter made three.

With his two goals on Friday, Shaw now has 12 on the season and 30 for his career, which ties him with Nikki Bagheri (1989-90) for second on the all-time list.
