FULLERTON, Calif. - Cal State Fullerton used an early first-half goal to edge the UC Davis men's soccer team 1-0 Saturday night at Titan Stadium in Fullerton. With the loss, the Aggies are now 5-10 overall and 2-4 in conference play while the Titans improve to 7-6-1 overall and 3-2-0 in the Big West Conference.

Rene Cuellar led the Aggie offense with three shots while Jason Santos had two. UC Davis goalkeeper Ryan McCowan recorded two saves in 90 minutes of action.

Cal State Fullerton's Nick Posthuma scored the game's only goal after collecting a long pass from John Meza. Posthuma outmaneuvered a UC Davis defender and slipped a low shot past McCowan just inside the far post.

The Aggies had their best attempt to score just before the close of the first half. A UC Davis corner kick found Rene Cuellar who took a shot from 18 yards out but Cal State Fullerton goalkeeper Trevor Whiddon was there with the save. The ball deflected back to Jason Santos who blasted a shot but Whiddon recovered in enough time to save that shot as well.

The two saves were Whiddon's only ones of the night.

UC Davis found themselves at an advantage when Cal State Fullerton's Johnathan Birt was red carded in the 63rd minute. The Titans would continue play with only 10 men on the field.

Despite the advantage, however, UC Davis only took two shots in the second half. Dan Reese's attempt in the 49th minute went wide while Rene Cuellar's header in the 89th minute also missed the mark.

Cal State Fullerton outshot UC Davis 10-8 but the Aggies had four corner kicks on the night.
