CARSON, Calif. - Victor Guerrero scored the game-winner eighteen minutes into the contest and the Toro defense did the rest as No.4 Cal State Dominguez Hills defeated No.19 UC Davis, 4-0, in a California Collegiate Athletic Association men's soccer game Sunday afternoon at Toro Field.
With the loss the Aggies fall to 7-3-4 on the season, 6-3-2 in the CCAA while the Toros improve to 14-1-2 overall, 8-1-2 in conference play.
Guerrero scored the game-winner on a penalty kick at 17:49 of the first half. The shot was set up when an Aggie defender was call for a foul against Toro forward Rick Cobb inside the box. The Toros went up 2-0 at the 40 minute mark when Jesse Graham centered his pass over the Aggie defense to Mikkael Hernholm, who beat two defenders and UC Davis goalkeeper Nic Platter to the far post for his sixth goal of the season.
In the second half Ryan Taylor and Francisco Corona each added goals to make the final score 4-0. It marked the second-straight shutout for the Toros after defeating No.13 Chico State, 4-0, Friday night. The four goals allowed by the Aggies were the most given up by UC Davis since dropping a 4-3 contest against San Francisco State to end the 2000 season.
For the game the Aggies were outshot 13-7 while the Toros also held a 4-2 advantage in corner kicks. Platter made five saves in net for the Aggies while allowing all four goals. Freshman Charles Warne came on the play the final 9:33. Javier Barragan made two saves for the Toros to pick up the win while Austin Anderson preserved the shutout by playing the final 6:05.
UC Davis will next be in action on Saturday when it faces Sonoma State in Rohnert Park. Gametime is set for 3 p.m.
