Box Score

BERKELEY, Calif. - Nick Hatzke's penalty kick 10 minutes into the second half broke open a scoreless game and No.25 UC Berkeley went on to defeat UC Davis 3-0 in a men's soccer game at Edwards Stadium on Thursday afternoon.

With the loss the Aggies move to 4-7-2 on the season while the Golden Bears improve to 9-2-2.

In a scoreless first half, both teams saw scoring opportunities turned away by stellar goalkeeping. Cal keeper Mike Oseguera made an acrobatic save, tipping a 10-yard blast over the cross bar in the 41st minute.

Oseguera finished the first half with three saves, while Aggie Charles Warne had two big stops himself to keep the Bears off the board.

Cal quickly turned the momentum of the game in their favor early in the second half. After senior midfielder Yohei Fukuda was dragged down in the penalty box in the 55th minute, junior midfielder and leading goal scorer Hatzke calmly converted the penalty kick. The score proved to be the game winner, and was Hatzke's fifth of the year.

Senior forward Carl Acosta notched his fourth goal of the season, when he found the back of the net from 18-yards out at the 68:52 mark. Freshman midfielder Luke Sassano assisted on the play.

Freshman forward Javier Hil tallied his first career goal in the 88th minute of play on an assist from Yohei Fukuda.

Oseguera finished with five saves for Cal in his first shutout of the season, while Davis' Warne came up with three.

The Bears out-shot the Aggies 18-9, collecting nine corners to Davis' one along the way.

UC Davis is next in action on Oct. 30 when it hosts UC Riverside on Senior Day at Aggie Field. Gametime is set for 1 p.m.
