SANTA BARBARA, Calif. -- Sophomore Adam Mickelson scored twice to lead a barrage of UC Davis goals and seven different players posted a point on Saturday night, as the visiting Aggies found the back of the net five times as part of a record-setting, 5-0, Big West Conference victory over host UC Santa Barbara in front of 1,423 fans at Harder Stadium.

UC Davis, which clinched a berth in the Big West Tournament with the win, improved to 8-7-2 overall and 5-2-1 in league play to regain first place in the league's North Division, outscoring the Gauchos by a combined score of 8-0 in two contests this year, and sweeping the regular season series from UCSB for only the second time in the history of the series.

The Gauchos fell to 6-6-4 overall and 4-2-2 in league with the defeat, suffering their worst home loss since 1998 -- a 5-0 decision to Gonzaga.

Saturday's margin of victory was the largest in a Big West match in the program's history and were the most goals ever scored by the Aggies in a Big West contest since joining the league, surpassing the four scored in a, 4-2, win over Cal Poly on Oct. 30, 2010.

UC Davis' five goals against UC Santa Barbara are the most in the history of the series by either team and stand as the third-highest single-match total in the program's Division I history -- the most for an Aggie team since a 6-0 win over Pacific on Sept. 20, 2015. The 14 points by UC Davis also rank tied for third in a single match in the program's Division I history alongside the 14 scored against Cal Poly on Oct. 30, 2010, and the most since the Aggies posted a Division I record 17 points in the win over the Tigers two seasons ago.

Mickelson, who now has 12 points in eight conference matches this season thanks to four goals and four assists, has a point in each of his last three contests, and multiple points in a single match for the third time this year after bookending the game-winner just 7:13 into Saturday night's contest off a pass from teammate Greg Salazar and the final dagger in the 63rd minute with an assist from Miguel Acevedo.

In between, junior Matt Baringer added his fifth score of the season in the 33rd minute for a 2-0 lead, and senior Kyle Higgins turned a breakaway into a 3-0 advantage before the break, finding the back of the net for the third time this season in the 42nd minute off a pass from Onah Power. Senior Noah Wilson added his fourth of the year off Power's second assist of the night in the 58th minute to open the scoring in the second half.

The goals were Mickelson's third and fourth of the season, tying him with Wilson for second on the team behind Baringer, whose 12 points are second to Mickelson's 13 for the top spot on the squad in that category.

The Aggies out-shot the Gauchos, 12-5, for the match, led by Mickelson's match-high five attempts on the night. Goalkeepers Wallis Lapsley and Jon Laughlin each made one save, stopping the only two shots put on frame by UCSB's Seo-In Kim, to combine on the shutout.

Saturday's performance gave UC Davis 31 goals on the year -- the third-highest total in the program's Division I history and the most since the 2008 squad finished with 37 -- while the 82 points rank fourth on the school's Division I list.

Regular season play comes to an end next week for UC Davis, as the Aggies make a return trip down to the coast to take on Cal Poly on Wednesday (Oct. 25) at 7 p.m. in San Luis Obispo, Calif., before returning home to host Sacramento State in the finale on Sunday (Oct. 29) at 1 p.m. at the Aggie Soccer Field.
