DAVIS, Calif. -- UC Davis head men's soccer coach Dwayne Shaffer announced, Wednesday, that nine high school soccer standouts have signed letters of intent to continue their academic and athletic careers with the Aggies beginning with the 2014 season.

"I am extremely excited about this recruiting class," Shaffer said. "I'd like to thank assistant coaches, Eric Mild and Jason Hotaling, for working hard to identify some great prospects and help put together a class made up of players that have the ability to be outstanding student-athletes at UC Davis and help us compete for a Big West Conference title."

Evan Barrett (Sacramento, Calif./Jesuit HS), Noah Wilson (Petaluma, Calif./Casa Grande HS), Lizandro Torres (Stockton, Calif./Lincoln HS), Miguel Acevedo (Pacoima, Calif./Bishop Alemany HS), Gregory Salazar (Long Beach, Calif./Cathedral HS), Marco Barragan (Santa Rosa, Calif./Piner HS), Derek Caro (South Lake Tahoe, Calif./South Lake Tahoe HS), Matt Baringer (Piedmont, Calif./Piedmont HS), and Roy Boateng (Rohnert Park, Calif./Rancho Cotate HS), will join the Aggies next season.

"We've got excellent speed and technical players in the group, as well as adding some solid defenders to our roster," Shaffer added. "I believe all of these signees will have an opportunity to come in and compete for playing time right away and, it would be nice, if three or four of them earn a starting role."
