Aggies Announce 2010 Spring Schedule

DAVIS, Calif. - The UC Davis men's soccer team has released its 2010 spring schedule which features matches against three teams who advanced to the 2009 NCAA Division I Men's Soccer Championship, announced head coach Dwayne Shaffer.

The Aggies begin the spring season April 3 against Chico State at University Soccer Stadium in Chico, Calif. at 6:30 p.m. The Wildcats finished 8-8-4 overall and 5-7-4 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA).

UC Davis will then travel to Moraga, Calif. to take on Saint Mary's and Cal State Stanislaus in a doubleheader April 10. The first game against Saint Mary's begins at noon and will be followed by a 1:30 p.m. matchup with Cal State Stanislaus.

The Gaels advanced to the first round of the NCAA Championship after compiling a program-best overall record of 10-4-5. Saint Mary's head coach Adam Cooper was named West Coast Conference Coach of the Year while eight SMC players earned All-WCC honors, including junior Jordan Grider who was named WCC Defensive Player of the Year.

Cal State Stanislaus finished with an 11-6-2 overall record and were second in the CCAA North Division with an 8-6-2 mark. The Warriors were led by junior forward Victor Regalado who was named the CCAA Most Valuable Offensive Player after he led the conference in goals scored, points per game, goals per game and game-winning goals.

UC Davis will host the annual Alumni Game at Aggie Soccer Stadium to coincide with Picnic Day festivities April 17 at 2 p.m.

The Aggies take on crosstown rival Sacramento State as part of a doubleheader April 24 at 10 a.m at Aggie Soccer Stadium. The Hornets earned the program's first ever NCAA Tournament bid after winning the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Tournament and finishing the 2009 regular season with a 12-6-3 overall record and a 6-0-1 conference record. After defeating Loyola Marymount 2-1, the Hornets advanced to face UCLA in the second round, but fell by a 2-1 decision. UC Davis topped Sacramento State in a regular season matchup Sept. 27 by a score of 1-0.

 

 

The team will follow up the matchup with Sacramento State with a 4 p.m. game against Cal State Monterey Bay.

UC Davis and Santa Clara will face off May 2 at 10:30 a.m. at Aggie Soccer Stadium before the Aggies host Sonoma State at 2:30 p.m. The Broncos were 6-9-5 overall and 4-5-3 in WCC play and finished fourth in the conference while the Seawolves advanced to their third straight appearance in the NCAA Division II Men's Soccer Tournament and ended the 2009 season with a 14-5-4 overall record.

UC Davis closes out the 2010 spring schedule against Pac-10 opponent Stanford in Palo Alto May 7 at 6 p.m. The Cardinal advanced to the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Championships before falling to Akron by a 2-0 decision. Stanford closed out the 2009 season ranked 14th nationally by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America and compiled a 12-6-2 overall record.

The Aggies finished the 2009 regular season with a 6-12-1 overall record and a 3-6-1 record in Big West play.
