DAVIS, Calif. – In addition to the football spring preview, Aggie fans can watch both the UC Davis men’s and women’s soccer teams in action as each program hosts a pair of spring games on Saturday.

The men’s soccer team will play host to Chico State at noon before meeting Dominican at 4 p.m. The women’s soccer team will battle Chico State at 10 a.m. then play San Francisco at 2 p.m. Admission is free to all four games.

The men’s team is 4-0-1 through its spring slate thus far. Head coach Dwayne Shaffer’s group beat Notre Dame de Namur, 1-0, Sonoma State, 2-0, rival Sacramento State, 4-3, and their alumni, 7-0. UC Davis played California to a 1-1 draw. 

The men’s team went 8-3-0 in Big West Conference play last season and advanced to the Big West Tournament Championship game before falling to Cal State Northridge, 1-0. The Aggies return their top-10 point scorers from a year ago, including leading goal scorers Alex Aguiar, Matt Sheldon, Kevin Schulte and Pat Reese. Goalkeeper Omar Zeenni, who posted a 0.91 goals against average with 69 saves in 20 starts last year, will also be back in 2013. The Aggies had just four seniors on their roster last season.

The women’s soccer team defeated the Sacramento Storm, 7-0, last weekend as the Aggies are four games into their spring schedule. Head coach Maryclaire Robinson’s squad was 8-9-2 overall last season and 3-5-1 in Big West action. They return their top five scorers from a year ago, including Ashley Edwards, who led the team with seven goals. Starting keeper Taylor Jern, who made 84 saves to go with a 1.09 goals against average in 18 starts in 2012, will also be back next season.

The football spring preview will begin at 11 a.m. with gates opening at 10 a.m. Free parking and free admission is offered to all fans who want to check out the new-look Aggies under first year head coach Ron Gould.
