Men's Soccer Ends Spring Season at Stanford

DAVIS, Calif. - The UC Davis men's soccer team closes out its 2013 spring schedule on Saturday night with a 7 p.m. game at Stanford.

Head coach Dwayne Shaffer's squad has carried over a successfull 2012 fall campaign into its 2013 spring season, with an undefeated 6-0-3 record thus far.

The Aggies have posted wins over Sacramento State (4-3), Chico State (2-0), Sonoma State (2-0), Notre Dame de Namur (1-0), Dominican (1-0) and their alumni (7-0) while playing to draws with Cal (1-1), Santa Clara (1-1) and CSU East Bay (1-1).

UC Davis has allowed just six goals in nine spring games while scoring 20. Junior-to-be Matt Sheldon leads all Aggies with five scores.

The Aggies went 8-3-0 in Big West Conference play last season and advanced to the Big West Tournament Championship game before falling to Cal State Northridge, 1-0. The Aggies return their top-10 point scorers from a year ago, including leading goal scorers Alex Aguiar, Sheldon, Kevin Schulte and Pat Reese. Goalkeeper Omar Zeenni, who posted a 0.91 goals against average with 69 saves in 20 starts last year, will also be back in 2013. The Aggies had just four seniors on their roster last season.

Stanford is also currently undefeated, and has outscored opponents 15-1 in four spring games, including a 3-1 win over Cal State Bakersfield on Saturday night.
