DAVIS, Calif. -- A slate of 11 home contests, including a pair on the turf at Aggie Stadium, and a trip to Ohio State for a two-day tournament highlights the UC Davis men's soccer team's 20-match schedule for the upcoming 2014 season, announced Wednesday by Head Coach Dwayne Shaffer.

"Soccer is huge in both the Davis and Sacramento areas and being able to play under the lights at Aggie Stadium this will give us an opportunity to showcase UC Davis soccer against some of the best teams the Big West Conference has to offer," Shaffer said. "After an early test in Ohio, our schedule will prepare us nicely for the rigors of league play as we push toward a postseason berth."

A season after taking on six eventual NCAA Tournament participants, and posting a 3-3-2 mark against that group which included four national seeds, the Aggies return to the field against four of those teams again in 2014, hosting Loyola Marymount (Sept. 5) and a home-and-home against Big West Conference North Division rival UC Santa Barbara (Oct. 18 at home and Oct. 29 in Santa Barbara), while traveling to Southern California to take on UC Irvine (Oct. 9) and Cal State Northridge (Oct. 11) in back-to-back contests.

UC Davis, which returns its top five scorers off of last season's side that finished 9-9-3 overall and 4-4-2 in conference play, opens the campaign at home with an exhibition against Chico State on Aug. 24 at Noon, before officially lifting the lid on the 2014 schedule with a trip East for the ninth-annual Bert & Iris Wolstein Classic hosted by Ohio State, along with Canisius College and Butler on Aug. 29 and 31. The Aggies take on the host Buckeyes and Golden Griffins during the weekend.

From there, it's "home, sweet home" for UC Davis, which plays seven of its next nine contests on its home field, a run that includes the first of two matches on the turf of Aggie Stadium -- home of the UC Davis football and lacrosse programs -- under the lights on Oct. 2 against Cal State Fullerton, which will also open the Aggies' Big West schedule.

A match against league division rival Cal Poly (Nov. 5) will also be played at Aggie Stadium as the regular season enters its stretch run.

The UC Davis men's soccer team last had the opportunity to compete in Aggie Stadium during the 2010 campaign, hosting an exhibition against Dominican and welcoming four league rivals (UC Irvine, UC Riverside, Cal State Northridge, and UC Santa Barbara) for regular season clashes, finishing 3-2 in those matches that season.

Other non-conference home contests include battles against San Diego (Sept. 7), Air Force (Sept. 19), Grand Canyon (Sept. 21), and Saint Mary's (Sept. 28), while conference contests against UC Riverside (Oct. 4) and Causeway Cup rival Sacramento State (Nov. 1) will be played in front of the hometown faithful.

The Big West Tournament begins with the first round on Nov. 8 at the home of the higher seed, with the semifinals (Nov. 12) and championship match (Nov. 15) to follow. NCAA Tournament competition opens on Nov. 20.
