IRVINE, Calif. - Omar Zeenni led the UC Davis men's soccer team to three straight draws on the road and played 330 minutes in goal to earn his fourth career Big West Conference Defensive Player of the Week award, it was announced by the league office on Monday.
The junior allowed just one goal during a busy week for the Aggies after Denver scored in the 48th minute on Sunday. Prior to the goal, Zeenni owned a 358-minute scoreless streak after registering shutouts against UNLV, 17th-ranked CSU Bakersfield and Air Force. He faced a combined 51 shots from the Roadrunners, Falcons and Pioneers and kept the Aggies unbeaten on the year with a 1-0-3 record.
Against CSU Bakersfield, he made three saves, then knocked away five more against Air Force. He made a career-high six saves against Denver on Sunday.
Zeenni first earned the award as a freshman in 2010, becoming the first Aggie freshman to win the honor since UC Davis joined the Big West in 2007. Last season he was twice selected as the league's Defensive Player of the Week.
UC Davis closes out a four-game road trip on Thursday at San Francisco at 7 p.m.
