SCOUTING SAINT MARY'S
Saint Mary's brings a two-game winning streak into Aggie Soccer Field on Saturday after knocking off UNC Wilmington and Appalachian State last weekend to win the UNCW Hilton Garden Inn Classic.
The Gaels, who advanced to the Elite Eight of the 2011 NCAA Div. I Tournament, return just four starters and 11 letterwinners from last year's team... The Gaels lost eight seniors.
Saint Mary's has scored just six goals this season, all of which have come from six different players on the roster.
Goalkeeper Andre Rawls has given up just three goals in 2012 for a 0.47 goals against average... He also has three shutouts to his credit.
Head coach Adam Cooper is in his seventh year and led Saint Mary's to its first-ever West Coast Conference title in 2011.
ALL-TIME AGAINST SAINT MARY'S
Since the 1990 season, Saint Mary's and UC Davis have met on four occasions with the Gaels owning a 3-1 record.
UC Davis last defeated Saint Mary's during the 2010 season, claiming a 2-1 win at Aggie Soccer Field on Sept. 12.
SMU 1, UC DAVIS 0 (SEPT. 16)
SMU knocked in an 88th minute goal to edge the Aggies 1-0 on Sept. 16 at the SMU Classic Presented by Jason's Deli in Dallas.
Goalkeeper Kris Schultz made his UC Davis debut and made one save.
Ryan Gross led UC Davis offensively with two shots.
UC DAVIS 2, #23 TULSA 1 (SEPT. 14)
Ryan Gross scored both Aggie goals to lead UC Davis to a 2-1 win over Tulsa at the SMU Classic Presented by Jaon's Deli on Sept. 14 in Dallas.
Gross scored in the 17th minute, collecting a corner kick from Alex Henry and shooting from 10 yards out.
He then scored on a free kick from 20 yards out in the 58th minute... The shot sailed into the top left corner.
HOME SWEET HOME
UC Davis is at home for the first time since Sept. 9, breaking up a four-game road trip to host Saint Mary's.
It marks just the second home game that UC Davis will play in September.
Prior to the Sept. 9 game against UCF in Davis, UC Davis had played four straight road games.
Freshman and Davis native Ryan Gross turned in a standout performance over the weekend at the SMU Classic Presented by Jason's Deli in Dallas.
Against Tulsa, he scored both Aggie goals to lead the team to a 2-1 victory on Sept. 14.
In the Sept. 16 matchup against SMU, Gross and the Aggie defense held the Mustangs scoreless until the 88th minute... He also led the Aggies offensively with two shots.
Gross has started all eight games and is UC Davis' leader in points (6)... He and Pat Reese are the only two Aggies with multiple goals on the season... Gross also has two assists, tying him with Matt Sheldon for the team high.
For his efforts against SMU and Tulsa, Gross was named to the all-tournament team.
BUILT FORD TOUGH
Sophomore Brian Ford is the only Aggie to have played in all 800 minutes of the 2012 season and has commanded the defense through all eight games.
He was recently named to the all-tournament team at the SMU Classic Presented by Jason's Deli in Dallas.
Ford was one of two players to start all 19 games as a true freshman in 2011... Last season, which featured an NCAA Div. I tying 11 overtime matches, he played all but 30 minutes on the field.
KRIS GETS THE KALL
Redshirt freshman goalkeeper Kris Schultz made his UC Davis debut on Sept. 16 against SMU.
He made one save in the game, facing seven shots from the Mustangs.
