DAVIS, Calif. —
Already honored by the Big West Conference on Sept. 30 as its defensive player of the week, senior goalkeeper Omar Zeenni earned additional accolades from College Soccer News as part of its 11-man, national team of the week.

By stopping a New Mexico penalty kick opportunity, collecting seven saves, and turning away two Lobos shots midway through the second half from point-blank range — the latter initiated a scoring opportunity for UC Davis that ended with the game-winning goal — the national publication rewarded Zeenni with a spot on its weekly list.

By defeating New Mexico on its own field, Zeenni helped the Aggies join an exclusive list of teams that departed Albuquerque with a victory. In the 113 games hosted by UNM since its soccer complex opened in 2002, one of the most hostile in the nation, the Aggies handed the Lobos their 17th loss.

In an ironic twist, Zeenni was one of two Big West players that received national recognition from College Soccer News - the other was UC Irvine's senior midfielder Enrique Cardenas. Zeenni and Cardenas will face one another on Oct. 4, at Aggie Soccer Field, in the first league game for each team. UC Irvine enters that contest as the nation's new No. 25 team; UC Davis will look to defeat its second ranked squad in as many games when it takes the field Friday afternoon.

The Aggies will end their weekend by hosting another nationally ranked team, No. 6 Cal State Northridge. Kickoff at Aggie Soccer Field, in Sunday's rematch of the 2012 Big West Conference Tournament's championship game, is slated for 3 p.m.
