SCOUTING UC SANTA BARBARA
Undefeated through 11 games, UC Santa Barbara suffered its first loss of the 2012 season on Sunday, dropping a 1-0 decision to Cal State Northridge at Harder Stadium.
The Gauchos are ranked No. 8 nationally in the NSCAA/Continental Tire NCAA Division I Men's National Poll and College Soccer News... They are ninth in the TopDrawerSoccer.com poll while Soccertimes.com ranks UCSB as No. 10 in the country.
Nic Ryan is the Gauchos' leader offensively with six goals and one assist for 13 points... Achille Campion has socred five goals and contributed one assist... UCSB's 25 goals - which ranks 12th nationally - have been scored by 10 different players.
Freshman goalkeeper Austin Mansker has started 11 of 12 games this season and has recorded four shutouts... He has allowed just nine goals for a Big West best 0.73 goals against average and has made 27 saves.
Sunday's 1-0 loss marked just the second time this year that UCSB has been held scoreless... UCSB and Cal State Fullerton battled to a scoreless draw on Sept. 30.
ALL-TIME AGAINST UC SANTA BARBARA
UC Davis is 2-12-2 all-time against UCSB, last defeating the Gauchos on Oct. 11, 2008 in Santa Barbara.
The Gauchos have won the last six straight matches and have not lost in Davis since UC Davis claimed a 1-0 victory on Nov. 23, 2006.
HENRY SCORES PLAYER OF THE WEEK NOD
After assisting the Oct. 5 goal and scoring the gamewinner on Sunday, Alex Henry was voted the Big West Offensive Player of the Week.
In the 1-0 win over UC Riverside on Oct. 5, Henry lined up an indirect free kick in the 60th minute... His cross from the right wing found Kevin Schulte in the six-yard box who volleyed in the goal.
On Sunday against Cal State Fullerton, Henry led UC Davis to its third straight victory with a goal from 35 yards out.
It was the first league award of Henry's career.
HOME SWEET HOME
UC Davis closes out a three-game homestand on Saturday, it's longest of the season after also hosting UC Riverside and Cal State Fullerton.
Prior to last weekend, the Aggies had played only three home games in 2012... UC Davis is now 3-2 on its home turf.
THE WILD, WILD BIG WEST
The North Division of the Big West - which includes Sacramento State, UC Davis, UC Santa Barbara and Cal Poly - posted an 11-4-1 record against the South Division over the last two weeks.
Sacramento State was picked to finish last in the North Division but own an impressive 4-0 Big West record to lead the group... It is the Hornets' first season as a Big West affiliate member in men's soccer.
UC Davis jumped into second place in the North Division after back-to-back wins over the weekend and have nine points... UCSB is third with seven points while Cal Poly is in fourth with six points.
Although Cal Poly is last with six points, the Mustangs have still collected more points than three of the South Division teams combined.
Cal State Northridge owns a large lead over the South with nine points... UC Riverside is in second with three points while Cal State Fullerton is in third with just one point... UC Irvine remains winless in the Big West.
ZEENNI REWRITING RECORD BOOKS
Junior goalkeeper Omar Zeenni recorded his fourth shutout of the season on Oct. 5 against UC Riverside, marking the 11th shutout of his career.
Zeenni is now tied for fourth with 2010 alum Ryan McCowan for career shutouts... Two more would move him in a tie for second with Jason King (1998-01) and Barry Wong (1990-91) who each recorded 13 as Aggie keepers.
The all-time career leader is Nic Platter who posted 17 shutouts during 2000-03.
Zeenni's 45 saves rank him third in the Big West while his .776 save percentage is also third-best in the league.
