DAVIS, Calif. - UC Davis junior Alex Henry was named to the Soccer America Men's Team of the Week after leading the Aggie men's soccer team to back-to-back wins over UC Riverside and Cal State Fullerton, it was announced on Thursday.
Henry was named the Big West Conference Offensive Player of the Week on Monday, the first of his career, after assisting on the game-winning goal against UC Riverside on Oct. 5, then scoring the gamewinner himself against Cal State Fullerton on Oct. 7.
The Aggies broke a scoreless tie with the Highlanders in the 60th minute after Henry lined up an indirect free kick on the right wing. His cross found Kevin Schulte trailing into the six-yard box and Schulte volleyed it into the back of the net to give UC Davis the 1-0 win.
Henry's 79th minute goal against Cal State Fullerton was a beauty. With the game knotted at one goal apiece, he collected a clearance by the Titan defense and, from around 35 yards out, struck a low, hard shot that skipped into the lower right corner of the goal to give UC Davis the 2-1 victory.
UC Davis has won three straight games and hosts No. 8 UC Santa Barbara on Saturday at Aggie Soccer Field at 3 p.m.
