Top Drawer Soccer National Team of the Week (Oct. 9-15)
DAVIS, Calif. -- Adding another honor to his mantel after a stellar on-field showing last week against UC Santa Barbara and Sacramento State, UC Davis junior defender Roy Boateng was named to Top Drawer Soccer's National Team of the Week the website announced Wednesday.
Named the Big West Conference Defensive Player of the Week on Monday for the second time in his career, Boateng, a managerial economics major from Rohnert Park, Calif., was named to Top Drawer Soccer's weekly honor roll for the first time after helping the Aggies engineer a pair of shutouts in league play to take over the top spot in the North Division.
Anchoring a back line that help the Gauchos and Hornets to a combined 11 shots -- just three of those on frame -- UC Davis posted back-to-back shutouts for the first time this year and the first time since opening the 2016 campaign with two consecutive clean sheets against San Jose State and Pacific.
The wins helped propel the Aggies to 4-1-1 in Big West play -- tied with the 2014 squad for the best league start in the program's Division I history.
UC Davis looks to continue its strong league start against the conference's Central Coast contingent this week, hosting Cal Poly on Wednesday (Oct. 18) at 4 p.m., before heading down the coast to kick-off the second round of division play at UC Santa Barbara under the lights on Saturday (Oct. 21) at 7 p.m.
