DAVIS, Calif. - Mustafa Chopan has been selected to the 2009 College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA)/ESPN the Magazine Academic All-District VIII Team for men's soccer, it was announced Thursday.

Chopan, a redshirt freshman from Citrus Heights, Calif., is majoring in biochemistry and molecular biology and currently holds a 3.91 grade point average.

In 2009, Chopan has appeared in 17 games and has started in nine. Offensively, he has recorded two shots, including one on frame, but he has also helped anchor a UC Davis defense that is allowing a .385 SOG percentage this season. Additionally, 11 games this season have been decided by only one goal, with the Aggies owning a 3-8-0 record in those games.

Chopan becomes the second Aggie to receive this honor since UC Davis was reclassified into Division I and has been placed for consideration on the national ballot for Academic All-America consideration.

To be nominated, a student-athlete must be a starter or important reserve with at least a 3.30 cumultaive grade point average and must have completed one full calendar year at the current institution.

The UC Davis men's soccer team hosts Cal Poly Saturday on Senior Day at Aggie Soccer Stadium. The match is set for a 1:00 p.m. kickoff.
