UC DAVIS 2, UC SANTA BARBARA 1 (OT) - OCT. 28
Matt Sheldon scored both Aggie goals on Sunday to lead UC Davis to a 2-1 overtime victory over UC Santa Barbara at Harder Stadium.
It was the first time UC Davis has swept UC Santa Barbara in regular season play in program history.
The win was also the first for UC Davis at Harder Stadium since 2008.
Sheldon scored with just three seconds remaining in the first half, then put away the gamewinner in overtime to seal UC Davis' win.
SHELDON NAMED BIG WEST PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Matt Sheldon's heroics against UC Santa Barbara on Sunday led to his second career Big West Offensive Player of the Week award.
He came off the bench in the 22nd minute against the Gauchos, scoring his first goal with just three seconds remaining in the first half off a pass from Ramon Martin Del Campo.
In overtime, Sheldon's first shot in the 95th minute was blocked by the UCSB defense, but he collected his own rebound and found the back of the net for the golden goal victory.
The goals were the first of the year for Sheldon.
THE WILD, WILD BIG WEST
UC Davis' win on Sunday gave the Aggies 18 points in the North Division and helped separate them from the rest of the field.
Sacramento State defeated Cal Poly on Saturday to move into second place with 16 points.
Cal Poly is third with 13 points... UCSB is fourth with 10 points.
Cal State Northridge clinched the South Division with a 2-1 win at UC Riverside on Oct. 27.
