QUEST FOR BIG WEST TITLE CONTINUES AS SEASON CLOSES
UC Davis men's soccer continues its quest to win its first-ever Big West Conference regular-season title this week as the Aggies play their final games of the 2011 season.
UC Davis hosts Cal State Fullerton on Wednesday for a 3 p.m. match at Aggie Soccer Field.
The Aggies then close out the season in a road match at UC Riverside on Saturday at 6 p.m.

Wednesday's game is Senior Day... Men's soccer will honor Rene Cuellar, Lance Patterson and Matt Provencher prior to kickoff.

SCOUTING CAL STATE FULLERTON
The Titans battled third-place UC Riverside to a 1-1 tie on Oct. 26, then dropped a close 4-3 match to UC Santa Barbara on Oct. 29.
Kevin Venegas leads the Big West in shots with 62 and has scored a team-leading six goals... Four of those goals have been game winners... He has also recorded four assists for the Titans... Oscar Aguero has scored four goals while Nick Posthuma and Jameson Campbell each have three assists.
In total, ten different Cal State Fullerton players have scored goals in 2011.
Goalkeeper Trevor Whiddon owns a .753 save percentage, ranking him fourth in the conference... He is second in the Big West in saves with 73.
Despite the 1-5-2 Big West record, Cal State Fullerton's 7-6-4 overall record marks its first winning season since 2000 when the team went 15-6-1 overall.
ALL-TIME AGAINST THE TITANS
Cal State Fullerton owns a 6-4 series advantage with the teams tying twice.
The Titans took a 2-1 overtime win on Oct. 27, 2010 in Fullerton... Alex Aguiar scored the equalizer in the 69th minute, but with three minutes left in OT, Nick Posthuma scored for Cal State Fullerton.
UC Davis is 2-3-1 against Cal State Fullerton in games played in Davis... The last Aggie win over the Titans in Davis was a 4-0 victory on Sept. 15, 2006.
SCOUTING UC RIVERSIDE
The third-place Highlanders only match of the week is Saturday's contest.
UC Riverside is coming off a double-overtime tie with Cal State Fullerton and upset ninth-ranked UC Irvine 3-2 on Oct. 29.
Cesar Diaz Pizarro was named to College Soccer News National Team of the Week... He netted the Highlanders' only goal against Cal State Fullerton then put away the game winner in Saturday's 3-2 win over UC Irvine.
Diaz Pizarro leads the team with nine goals - second most in the Big West - and three assists for 21 points... 12 other Highlanders have scored goals for UC Riverside.
Goalkeeper Cody Suppe leads the league in save percentage (.784) and saves (80).
UCSB TAKES 3-1 WIN OVER UC DAVIS
Tim Pontius scored twice and Luis Silva added a third goal as UC Santa Barbara took a 3-1 win over UC Davis on Oct. 26.
Dan Reese scored UC Davis' only goal in the 63rd minute... Matt Wiesenfarth found Reese on a fast break and passed him the ball, then Reese's shot from 15 yards out cut the Gauchos' lead in half.
GOODBYE AND GOOD LUCK
Rene Cuellar, Lance Patterson and Matt Provencher will play in their final game at Aggie Soccer Field on Wednesday.
Cuellar redshirted the 2007 season, but has been a permanent fixture in the Aggie defense since then... He assisted Chris Leer's goal against Denver in an NCAA Tournament on Nov. 22, 2008... His only career goal was the gamewinner in a 3-0 victory over Robert Morris on Sept. 4, 2010.
Patterson was the only true freshman to earn playing time in he 2008 season and scored his first collegiate goal in UC Davis' NCAA Tournament win over Denver on Nov. 22... In 2009, he appeared in all 18 games as a defender, then transitioned to a midfield position and led UC Davis in nearly every offensive category in 2010... He earned All-Big West Conference second team accolades last year... In 2011, he has played in every minute as a central defender, leading the Aggies to its 7-7-2 record and a possible Big West regular-season title.
Matt Provencher has brought strength and consistency as a goalkeeper to the Aggie lineup... In 2009, his first year of action, he registered a shutout in UC Davis' 2-0 win over Cal Poly... This season he has faced the Big West's toughest teams, with appearances against UC Santa Barbara and Cal State Northridge.
SCHULTE EARNS FURTHER NATIONAL RECOGNITION
Kevin Schulte was named to Soccer America's Team of the Week on Oct. 27 after his two-goal performance against UC Irvine.
The sophomore also earned Big West Offensive Player of the Week as well as Primetime Player of the Week selection from CollegeSoccer360.com.
THE WILD, WILD BIG WEST
UC Davis controls its own destiny as the Big West enters its final week of games and could win its first regular-season title.
Wins on Wednesday and Saturday will clinch the title regardless of any other outcome.
First-place UC Irvine's final game of the season is Tuesday at Cal Poly... A UC Irvine win coupled with a UC Davis win and a tie would tie the programs at 19 points each... The Aggies would gain the No. 1 seed for the Big West Tournament, however, after beating UC Irvine head-to-head on Oct. 19.
A regular-season title would be the first for UC Davis since joining the Big West in 2007... That year the Aggies finished in second place which is their highest conference finish to date.
UC Riverside is in third place with 14 points at 4-3-2... Two wins for UC Santa Barbara moved the Gauchos into fourth place with 12 points.
The top four teams advance to the Big West Tournament Nov. 9-12 at campus sites.
UC DAVIS EARNS REGIONAL RANKING
The NSCAA has ranked UC Davis tenth in the Far West Region, marking the Aggies' first ranking of any sort since the 2008 season.
