Men's Soccer Tops Titans for Third Straight Win
Alex Aguiar converted a penalty kick in the first half, then Alex Henry scored a beauty of a goal in the 79th minute to lead the UC Davis men's soccer team to a 2-1 win over Cal State Fullerton on Sunday at Aggie Soccer Field in Davis. UC Davis wins its third straight game to improve to 5-4-4 overall and 3-1 in the Big West. Over the last three games, the Aggies have outscored their opponents 6-2.
UC Davis, the top-seeded team in the North Division, will host Cal State Fullerton, the No. 2 seed in the South Division, in the Big West Conference Tournament semifinals.
The Aggies and the Titans will kick off at 2 p.m. on Wednesday at Aggie Soccer Field.

SCOUTING CAL STATE FULLERTON (8-11-1, 4-5-1 BIG WEST)
Cal State Fullerton claimed a 2-1 win over UC Riverside on Saturday to earn the No. 2 seed in the South Division and advance to the Big West Conference Tournament semifinals.
Jesse Escalante and Ian Ramos each lead the Titans offensively with 18 points apiece... Escalante has eight goals and two assists while Ramos has six goals and six assists.
Both were All-Big West Conference first team selections.
Three different goalkeepers have seen playing time for the Titans in 2012... Adam Zepeda has appeared in 10 matches while Robbie Hannon and Bryan Escalante have each appearaed in seven matches.
The Titans won four of their last five contests, generating 11 goals in those four wins.
ALL-TIME AGAINST CAL STATE FULLERTON
UC Davis defeated Cal State Fullerton 2-1 on Oct. 7 at Aggie Soccer Field.
Cal State Fullerton holds a slim 6-5-3 series record over the Aggies.
The teams are basically even when playing at Aggie Soccer Field with a 3-3-2 overall record.
Semifinal action begins on Wednesday at two different sites... The championship match is scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 10 and will be televised live on FOX Prime Ticket, FOX San Diego and FOX College Sports at 1 p.m.
Cal Poly, the second-seeded team in the North Division, travels to face Cal State Northridge at 7 p.m.
None of the four teams in the 2012 Big West Tournament have ever won the conference title.
Only Cal State Fullerton has advanced to the Big West Tournament finals, doing so in 2010 as the No. 4 seed.
AGGIES IN THE BIG WEST TOURNAMENT
Wednesday marks UC Davis' third time in the conference tournament after appearances in 2008 and 2010.
The Aggies have yet to advance past the semifinals, however, and are looking for their first-ever tournament win.
In 2008, UC Irvine, ranked eighth nationally, took a 1-0 win in the tournament semifinals... UC Davis, ranked 14th, received an at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament that year and advanced to the second round.
In 2010, the Aggies dropped a 2-1 decision to UC Santa Barbara at Harder Stadium in the tournament semifinals.
THREE AGGIES LAND ON BIG WEST ROLLS
Kevin Schulte and Omar Zeenni each earned All-Big West Conference second team honors while Alex Henry was an honorable mention.
Schulte has appeared in all 19 matches and has scored three goals.
Zeenni closed out the regular season with a 9-5-4 overall record to go with five shutouts... He was named Big West Defensive Player of the Week for the week ending Oct. 4... He is tied for fourth all-time in single season saves with 65.
Henry earned back-to-back Big West Offensive Player of the Week honors this season after assisting on the gamewinner against UC Riverside, then scoring the gamewinner himself against Cal State Fullerton two games later... The very next week he took down then-No. 8 UCSB with a goal in the 85th minute... He owns a team-leading four assists.
UC DAVIS 2, SACRAMENTO STATE 1 (NOV. 3)
Matt Wiesenfarth struck twice to lead UC Davis to a 2-1 victory over Sacramento State on Saturday in front of a sell-out crowd of 1,349 fans.
He scored in the eighth minute to put UC Davis up 1-0, then scored the gamewinner in the 46th minute for the 2-1 victory.
Wiesenfarth placed three of his four shots on frame to lead all players offensively.
