2001-02: Advanced to final heat at PCSC Championships in 100 breast (6th) and 200 breast (4th)... Mark of 2:08.32 in the latter ranks 10th in UC Davis history... Also placed 34th in 50 free at conference meet.
2000-01: Qualified for NCAA Championships in 100 breast (26th), 200 breast (24th)... Had second swim at PCSC Championships in 100 breast (22nd)... Also appeared in 200 IM and 50 free at conference meet.
UKIAH HS ’00: Placed 6th in 100 breast at North Coast Section meet as a junior, 14th as a senior... Set school record of 1:00.42 in that event... Team won 1999 North Bay League title... Voted team captain... Graduated with honors... Also swam for Ukiah Dolphins club team.
PERSONAL: Born Sept. 29, 1981 in Ukiah, Calif.... Son of Zia & Linda Poya... Majoring in mechanical engineering... Hopes to use such expertise to design power systems for transportation vessels... Already has head start on his career – once built a hand-held compressed air engine from scrap metal... Chose UC Davis for its sports program and strong engineering curriculum... Advice to kids: “There are very few things in life that are really worth worrying about.”
