PORTLAND, Ore. - UC Davis captured four of six singles matches to earn a come-from-behind, 4-3, victory over Division I Gonzaga University Saturday afternoon.
With the win the Aggies even their early-season record at 1-1.
Play began on Saturday with Gonzaga earning the opening doubles point by taking two of three doubles matches. Bastian Bartels and Michael Chin at No.3 earned the Aggies only doubles win, an 8-3 victory over Jesse Goldsmith and Robert Penney.
That was all for the Bulldogs as the Aggies claimed the remaining four singles matches for the team victory. Robert Wong was a straight-set winner over Reid Arthur at No.3 while Jayce Fitch need three sets to defeat Brett Womack at No.4. Bartels was the Aggies' lone double winner as he defeated Penney, 7-5, 5-7, 6-0 at No.5 singles and Ross Barasch used a 6-4, 6-4 win over Goldsmith at No.6 to secure the Aggies' victory.
UC Davis will continue its swing through the Pacific Northwest with a Sunday meeting against the University of Portland.
