IRVINE, Calif. - The UC Irvine Anteaters captured the opening doubles point then cruised to victory by taking five of six singles matches in defeating UC Davis, 6-1, Sunday afternoon as part of the UC Challenge.

With the loss the Aggies fall to 0-2 on the season while UC Irvine improves to 3-2.

In doubles play the Aggie duo of Ross Barasch and Kyle Trinosky captured an 8-5 victory over Bjorkman/Williams at No.3. It would be the only doubles win as UC Irvine won at No.'s 1&3 to win the opening doubles point.

The lone UC Davis bright spot in singles came at No.1 when senior Greg Lee rallied from a set down to defeat Jonathan Endrikat, 2-6, 6-1, 6-4. UC Irvine captured the other five singles matches, although Trinosky pushed Brian Morton to three sets at No.3.

UC Davis will next be in action on Thursday when they face Sacramento State at Rio Del Oro Racquet Club. Matchtime is set for 2:30pm.

The UC San Diego Tritons captured four singles matches in defeating the UC Davis Aggies 6-3 in the final match of the UC Challenge at Anteater Tennis Stadium.

With the loss the Aggies fall to 0-3 on the young season while UC San Diego improves to 2-1.

The Tritons captured two of three doubles matches as Kyle Trinosky and Ross Barasch prevented the sweep at No.2 with an 8-5 win. In singles, the Aggies captured the top two matches with wins by Greg Lee and Paul Dilloway, both in straight sets. The Tritons clinched the match by winning the remaning four matches, all in two sets. and won all six singles matches in straight sets.

The Tritons finish the UC Challenge with a 2-1 record, while the Aggies fell in all three matches.

UC Davis will next be in action on Thursday when they face Sacramento State at Rio Del Oro Racquet Club. Matchtime is set for 2:30pm.
