UC Davis falls to Washington

Feb. 9, 2018

SEATTLE, Wash. — Senior Everett Maltby secured a No. 3 singles match win for the UC Davis men’s tennis team before succumbing to a 6-1 loss against Washington’s team on Friday night at the Nordstrom Tennis Center.

UC Davis drops to 2-5 in their season record, while Washington bumps their overall record to 5-1 on the year.

Starting the evening with doubles play, Aggie tandem of Maltby and freshman Ivan Thamma defeated the Dawgs’ Kawika Lam and Enzo Sommer, 7-5, at No. 1 doubles to make it an even match going into the third doubles match, which had Aggie duo Tommy Lam and David Goulak and the Huskies’ Jack Davis and Jake Douglas. Lam and Goulak eventually fell 7-6(5) to Washington.

Not only did the Huskies seal the 1-0 lead, but they also got the three next single match victories to make the dual a temporary 4-0 score, but a permanent Dawgs match win. Although the game win was already secured by Washington, Maltby continued his singles and eventually defeated his opponent Amit Batta in the third set’s tiebreaker, 3-6, 6-2, 1-0(8).

The UC Davis men’s tennis team returns to the Nordstrom Tennis Center on Saturday at 2 p.m. for a neutral dual match against Portland’s team.
