SEATTLE, Wash. — Senior Tommy Lam and sophomore Mitchell Iwahiro both garnered singles match wins against Portland’s Tom Hann and Drew Davison, respectively, before facing a 4-2 defeat against Portland on Saturday afternoon at the Nordstrom Tennis Center.
The Aggies drop their overall record down to 2-6, while the Pilots bump up to a 4-3 record, thanks to their fourth consecutive dual match victory.
Portland secured the doubles point early on after winning at the No. 2 and No. 3 positions, besting UC Davis partners David Goulak and Tommy Lam, as well as Jonathan Star and Chethan Swanson.
It was not until the first two singles matches when UC Davis started tallying up team points. The first point came from Lam, who defeated Portland’s Hann in straight sets, 6-1, 6-0, while the second point came from Iwahiro after his straight-set victory over his opponent, 6-1, 6-2. Unfortunately, the winning-streak for the Aggies came to an end as the Pilots won the next two singles matches to reach the four-point threshold and secure their 4-2 victory.
The UC Davis men’s tennis teams returns to the courts on Sunday (Feb. 11) for their last match of the weekend, which will be a 12:00 p.m. dual against Gonzaga’s team at The Stevens Tennis Center in Spokane, Wash.
