DAVIS, Calif. - Sacramento State captured the opening doubles point then earned a come-from-behind win at No.4 singles which proved to be the difference as the Hornets defeated UC Davis, 4-3, in a men's tennis match Saturday afternoon at the Marya Welch Tennis Center.
With the loss the Aggies fall to 1-5 on the season.
Doubles play began the day adn the teams split the top two matches. The Aggie duo of Michael Chin and Justin Garcia captured an 8-5 win over Juniad Hossain and Joakim Rydberg at the No.1 spot while the Hornets won at No.2 when Matt Jones and Peter Farkas defated Jayce Fiutch and Bastian Bartels by an identical 8-5 score.
With the opening point in hard, the Hornets needed only a split of the six singles and that's exactly what they got. Jones earned a 6-4, 6-4 win over chin at No.1 while Fitch had a straight-set, 6-2, 6-3 win over Hossain at No.2. Daniel Elefant gave the Aggies their second point as he defeated Thomas Morton, 6-4, 6-4, at No.3 and Foy had little trouble with Daniel Furman, earning a 6-2, 6-2 victory at No.5. At No.6, McMakin needed three sets to defeat Michael Thomsen, 6-1, 3-6, 6-4, setting up Perez for the match clincher. After dropping the first set 6-3 to Combs, Perez won a second-set tiebreaker then rode a break to a 6-3, third-set win.
UC Davis is next in action on Sunday when it travel to Santa Cruz to take on UC Santa Santa Cruz. Matchtime is set for 1 p.m.
