POMONA, Calif. - College of the Desert won four of six singles matches on Saturday, defeating UC Davis, 6-3, in the consolation bracket of the California Men's Team Invitational at Cal Poly Pomona.
UC Davis was led by senior Greg Lee, who remained unbeaten during the spring season of the Aggies' schedule. Lee defeated Dalibur Ptak at No.1 singles, 6-3, 6-2, while also joining with Paul Dilloway for an 8-4 win at No.1 doubles against Ryuruk Kashiwabara and Ptak. Lee is 18-2 in singles overall and has won 13 straight.
College of the Desert opened the match with two wins in doubles, then captured the match with victories at No.2 through No.5 singles. The Aggies also earned a win at No.6 singles from Nikolai Novikov, who beat Simon Haeder, 7-6, 6-1.
UC Davis will play in the seventh-place match on Sunday at Cal Poly Pomona.
